Frequently Asked Questions

VMIO

What is "VMIO"?

Tutorial

"VMIO" is short for Visual Machine I/O, is a pure software based oscilloscope, there is no hardware dependency.

Unlike traditional oscilloscope, you have to probe hardware point to monitor pin status change, VMIO provides a mechanism to run an application on target machine, you can choose any interested GPIO/EC pin and any bit of the pad, so that you can precisely monitor the whole pin status change vividly without time limitation.

VMIO includes many modes, GPIO/EC Mode and Advanced I/O Mode.

Comparison (VMIO vs RW, Oscilloscope vs Multimeter, VMIO vs Oscilloscope)

A good comparison for better understanding, VMIO is like an oscilloscope in HW industry, likewise, RWEverything is like Multimeter.

The difference between an oscilloscope and a digital multimeter is simply stated as "pictures vs. numbers."
A digital multimeter is a tool for making precise measurements of discrete signals, enabling readings of up to eight digits of resolution for the voltage, current, or resistance of a signal.
An oscilloscope is designed to visually depict waveforms to show signal strength, wave shape, and the value of a signal.

An VMIO gives you a depth of information, such as visually plotting waveforms to reveal I/O value, wave shape.

A RWEverything gives only an instantaneous value of an I/O.

Is "VMIO" free?

Yes, "VMIO" is Freeware.

Does "VMIO" hog my system resources?

It depends.

"VMIO" uses very little system resources when you use default monitor time interval like 10 ms.

"VMIO" uses very more system resources when you set monitor time interval less than 10ms, especially when it is set to 0ms, this depends on you current CPU capability.

Does "VMIO" contain any malware, spyware or adware?

No, "VMIO" does not contain any malware, spyware or adware.

What are the system requirements for "VMIO"?

"VMIO" will run on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

"VMIO" requires the VMIO service or running "VMIO" as administrator.

How do I install "VMIO"?

"VMIO" is a portable software, there is no need to install it.

How do I run "VMIO"?

Double click VMIO.exe, it will be running with administrator privilege.

How long can VMIO_capture?

There is no time limitation. you can run VMIO till your disk is full.

How Big is VMIO log file?

Each bit toggle will only use about 50 Bytes when recording. the log file is pretty much small usually, unless there are bit toggling happening crazily.
